Over 190 children from 22 wrestling clubs from the country and abroad are in Pernik to take part in the international tournament in memory of Nikolay Georgiev-Kimbata, the chairman of the Pernik club Miner Ivo Angelov told BTA.
He added that the competitors are from Sweden, the Republic of North Macedonia, Kyustendil, Varna, Kostinbrod, Sofia teams, Dupnitsa and others.
Girls also came out to the mat to compete. As organizers and hosts, we are extremely happy that we are developing every year. I accept the idea of developing this sport, which has given me everything, as a great responsibility. For me, wrestling unites, no matter where in the world we are," Angelov also commented.
Professor Krasimir Petkov, rector of the National Sports Academy (NSA) "Vasil Levski", greeted the attendees and expressed satisfaction with the sight of so many children who are passionate about sports.
"Every organism has a heart, and the heart of this tournament is called Ivo Angelov. This tournament is of utmost importance for children" said the rector of the NSA.
He added that such competitions give children a chance to develop themselves and gain experience on the mat from a young age.
Also guests were the mayor of Chelopech Municipality, Eng. Alexi Kesyakov, world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Yavor Yanakiev, weightlifting champion Yoto Yotov, Tsvetan Zelenkov, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa wrestling club, wrestling champion Alexander Kostadinov and others.
