Alex Pereira to Make Heavyweight Debut Against Ciryl Gane at Ultimate Fighting Championship Event at the White House

Two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira is set to make his debut in the heavyweight division against the No. 1 contender Ciryl Gane. The bout is scheduled for June 14 at the special UFC event planned near the White House.

Pereira’s coach and former UFC champion Glover Teixeira believes the French fighter is the most suitable opponent for the Brazilian as he debuts in a third weight class.

“Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall — all those guys would be incredibly tough opponents. Ciryl Gane is fast and can close the distance, but I think he’s a good opponent for Alex. The best one,” Teixeira said in an interview with Overdogs Brasil.

The interim heavyweight title will be on the line in the fight. However, even if Pereira wins, it is unlikely that he will be recognized as the first UFC champion in three different divisions.
