Three-time UFC title challenger Dustin Poirier, an American, spoke about the psychological difficulties he faced after retiring from professional wrestling.
"Retiring is scary, man. Days are long. I have a lot of time. I don’t have to get ready for a fight. I wouldn’t say depressed, but I got into a kind of funk like, ‘What the hell am I going to do with my life?’. I don't know who I am without fighting. It's like I had a cloud in my head that didn't clear for 20 years. Now I wake up and it's gone. What do I do? I'm still trying to figure it out", Poirier said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
“Every day I would wake up for the past 20 years, ‘How can I be a better fighter? What’s new in fitness? How can I push myself? I want to be the champion.’ And then, boom, you lay the gloves down and you wake up and you’re a f**king civilian", Poirier said.
Dustin Poirier is 37 years old. The American made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2009. He competed in the UFC from 2011 to 2025. His record in the organization is 22 wins and nine losses.
