UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski believes that Khabib Nurmagomedov deserves a place among the greatest fighters in history, even though his career was relatively short.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Volkanovski emphasized that greatness is not defined solely by an undefeated record.
“Khabib could easily be considered one of the greatest. You can say that just because he’s undefeated, but for me that’s not the most important thing. It’s about who you fought. He competed with so much confidence. Even if his résumé isn’t as stacked as others,” Volkanovski said.
He also made a comparison with Charles Oliveira, who has more wins but also several losses on his record.
“Khabib clearly dominated his fights, took very little damage, and looked far better than his opponents. And while I take his record very seriously, he’s at the top because of how he did it,” the Australian added.
Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport in 2020 after three successful title defenses and has shown no indication of returning to the octagon since.
