The legendary 48-year-old former UFC and WWE champion Brock Lesnar recalled how he almost died after losing to Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight title at UFC 121.
“Caine Velasquez beat me in Anaheim. But I think I didn’t give it my all because of diverticulitis (acute inflammation of the intestinal wall, accompanied by severe abdominal pain – ed.). I almost died from that. It changed my life a little bit and my attitude towards sports. In this business, you can easily get injured. It was one of those moments when at the beginning of my career I had to give it my all, and then when I still had fights under my contract, I thought: ‘You know what? I’m not going to miss this money, so I’m going to fight’”, Lesnar was quoted as saying by Fightful.
Lesnar also admitted that his championship titles and awards mean nothing to him and considers his children to be his most important achievement in life.
"None of my championships or any other awards mean anything to me. They mean nothing to me. My legacy is my kids. I mean, in this dark world we live in, having kids you can be proud of is already an achievement. When parents come up to me and say, 'Dude, your sons are so respectful,' it inspires me. You know what I mean?" Lesnar also shared, as quoted by Wrestle Features.
