Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has weighed in on the title clash between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland.
According to Adesanya, Strickland’s chances improve if the fight goes into the later rounds.
“I think Sean will have a chance if the fight gets into the later rounds. If Strickland can stay on his feet, anything is possible. But Chimaev… he starts every fight with incredible aggression.”
However, Adesanya expressed doubts that Strickland will be able to handle that kind of pressure.
“It’s unlikely Strickland will be able to deal with that pressure. No one has managed to do it yet. On the other hand, they’ve trained together. Maybe something happened in the gym that gave Sean confidence—we don’t know,” Adesanya said in an interview with ESPN.
The middleweight title fight between Chimaev and Strickland is scheduled for May 9 at UFC 328 in New Jersey.
