Diaz launched a verbal attack on the former two-division UFC champion and current analyst, criticizing both his fighting career and his work as a commentator. Cormier responded, comparing their respective achievements in the sport.
Although Diaz is set to return to MMA against Mike Perry on May 16, Schaub believes targeting Cormier is a mistake.
“For some people, that approach works—saying whatever they want and getting attention. Diaz makes money from it, so I don’t blame him,” Schaub said on his YouTube channel.
However, he emphasized that most of the fighters Diaz criticizes have had more successful careers.
“If you understand MMA, you’ll see that everyone he talks about is a better fighter and has a better career. He’s just barking up the wrong tree when he goes after Daniel Cormier. We’re talking about a real elite of the sport,” Schaub added.
The clash between Diaz and Cormier adds even more tension ahead of the veteran’s return, which is already generating significant interest among fans.
