Former champion admits retirement comments were emotional

Jon Jones: I Wanted More Respect

Jon Jones has once again hinted that a return to the octagon is still possible, despite his recent statements.

The former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) responded strongly to Dana White’s claims that he was never part of the plans for UFC Freedom 250 on June 14. According to Jones, the disagreement mainly stemmed from financial terms surrounding a potential rematch with Alex Pereira.

“I felt like I wanted to be compensated in a way that I wasn’t, and we just had a disagreement. That happens in life,” Jones told UFC Brasil.

Despite the tension in negotiations, the American had positive words for his potential opponent:

“I’m a big fan of Alex Pereira. I like the way he carries himself—he’s such a classy fighter and person.”

Jones also admitted that his statement about no longer being a fighter was driven by emotion, leaving the door open for a possible return in the future.
