Carlos Ulberg has knee surgery days after winning UFC title at UFC 327

Carlos Ulberg has had one unforgettable week — winning UFC gold and then heading straight into surgery.

Just five days after capturing the UFC light heavyweight title with a knockout win over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327, Ulberg (14-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) underwent knee surgery. On Thursday, the newly crowned champion shared an Instagram story from a hospital bed with the caption: “Knee surgery done.” Earlier that day, he had posted a photo from Harry Reid International Airport, suggesting the procedure took place in Las Vegas.

The exact severity of the injury and Ulberg’s recovery timeline remain unknown. He appeared to hurt his knee during one of the opening exchanges in Saturday’s main event at Kaseya Center in Miami, but still managed to stop Prochazka (32-6-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and claim the title.

After the fight, Prochazka suggested he made the mistake of showing mercy to his injured opponent and ended up paying for it. The comment appeared to strike a nerve with Ulberg, who fired back verbally. While Ulberg said he has no interest in an immediate rematch, his injury situation leaves the UFC’s next move uncertain, including the possibility of an interim title fight.
