ONE Championship says it is seeking up to 542 million baht (around US$17 million) in damages from Rodtang Jitmuangnon in Thailand, although the promotion insists his rematch with Takeru Segawa will still headline ONE Samurai 1 in Tokyo.
Speaking outside court in Nonthaburi on Thursday, ONE Thailand president Plai Jitinat said the figure only applies to the Thailand case, with separate legal proceedings still ongoing in Japan and Singapore.
The dispute has escalated quickly after ONE accused Rodtang of repeatedly breaching his contract and making defamatory statements. Rodtang, meanwhile, has claimed his signature was forged on several documents and has taken the matter to police. Despite the legal battle, both sides appear determined to keep the April 29 fight on track.
“As of right now, there is still no change to the fight card,” Plai told the Bangkok Post. Rodtang also gave signs he is still preparing as normal, posting training videos and sparring clips from his gym.
His nutritionist, Peter Miller, shared a photo with the caption: “Let’s do this. Tokyo bound, six days.” ONE’s social media team also reassured fans that the fight is “still on”, while hinting it could be Rodtang’s final appearance for the promotion.
The event remains hugely important for ONE, as it will launch the organization’s new monthly Japan series at Ariake Arena. While the card includes several world title fights, Rodtang vs Takeru is still the main attraction. For now, both sides seem focused on getting through Tokyo before dealing with the bigger fallout afterward.
