Conor McGregor once again captured the attention of the MMA community after posting a cryptic message on social media platform X, sparking major speculation about his UFC future.
“I’m very excited about the UFC card in Newark, New Jersey, with my 84kg championship belt!” wrote the former two-division champion.
The statement puzzled fans, as McGregor has never competed in the UFC middleweight division (84kg). On the contrary, in recent years the Irishman has noticeably added muscle mass and has repeatedly hinted that any comeback would more likely come at welterweight (77kg), rather than in a lower division.
His post came just days before UFC 328, where middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev is set to defend his title against Sean Strickland on May 9 in Newark. This naturally led to rumors that McGregor could be interested in facing the winner, although such a scenario currently seems unlikely.
Meanwhile, McGregor also appeared in a sparring video with former welterweight fighter Dong Hyun Kim. In the footage, the Irishman showcased an aggressive style and solid physical condition, though some fans remained skeptical.
“Conor is finished,” one user wrote, as quoted by Bloody Elbow.
Others were similarly unimpressed, pointing out that the sport has changed significantly since his last fight more than six years ago.
McGregor continues to insist that his return is near. The most recently mentioned date is July 11 during International Fight Week in Las Vegas, with rumors suggesting Max Holloway as a possible opponent.
For now, as is often the case with McGregor, reality remains unclear, while his words continue to generate more questions than answers.
