Jim Miller compared his long career to Indiana Jones, saying it’s “not the years, it’s the miles” after nearly two decades in the sport.
Miller (39–19 MMA, 28–18 UFC) secured a first-round guillotine choke submission over Jared Gordon (21–9 MMA, 9–8 UFC) in their lightweight prelim bout at the Prudential Center. The win extended his UFC record for most victories and earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.
The 42-year-old returned after a 13-month layoff — the longest of his career — following a difficult year that included surgery for both himself and his teenage son, who successfully battled a rare cancer. Fighting in front of his family made the win especially emotional.
Miller now has finishes in his last 11 victories, eight by submission, and remains focused on reaching 50 UFC fights — a milestone few are likely to match.
“I’ve got a lot of miles on this body,” Miller said. “I want to get to 50, but I need to stay smart and avoid unnecessary injuries. That’s why I trust my team — we prepare the right way.”
Looking ahead, Miller wouldn’t mind facing Conor McGregor, who has hinted at a return.
“That would be a fun fight,” Miller said. “I’ll test that new titanium ankle of his. Honestly, I feel for him — he hasn’t fought in a long time. But yeah, they know my number.”
