“It’s Our Belt”: Strickland Shares Moment with Xtreme Couture Team

Sean Strickland Welcomed Back by Xtreme Couture After Title Win

Sean Strickland returned to his home gym, Xtreme Couture, as a two-time UFC champion, receiving a hero’s welcome from his coaches and training partners after his latest title triumph.

At UFC 328, Strickland pulled off a major upset, defeating the previously undefeated Khamzat Chimaev via split decision to reclaim the middleweight title. It marked the second time he captured the belt as an underdog, having first done so against Israel Adesanya at UFC 293.

On Monday, Strickland walked back into Xtreme Couture with the UFC title in hand and addressed his team following the victory.

"I want to thank you guys – I'm pretty f*cked up, I'm gonna need a few weeks off," Strickland said. "I wouldn't be here without you guys, seriously. ... It's not just my belt, it's our belt."

Several of his teammates also shared their thoughts, praising his dedication and relentless work ethic.

"Bro, that's just the culmination of hard work," Brad Tavares said.

"Hard work, dedication, consistency – he's a true leader," Edmen Shahbazyan added.

"I really appreciate your process, you as a person," Kai Kamaka said. "You're truly an inspiration to my son. I've never been a champion, but he's seen a world champion twice. ... Last night he was playing UFC, beating up Brad with uncle Sean."

Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick also offered words of perspective and motivation as the team looks ahead.

"It takes a village, man," Nicksick said. "We're not here without you guys. This is a very important ecosystem. Without everyone in this room, we can't keep growing or help you grow with us. This is what a real team looks like. I love every one of you. That belt, like Sean said, belongs to all of us.

"But this isn’t the endgame. Nobody cares about yesterday now. It’s about what’s next. It’s Monday — we start again today. You guys ready?"
