Construction is underway for the UFC’s upcoming "Freedom 250" event on the White House South Lawn, featuring a massive open-air arena that dwarfs a standard fight-night setup.
The centerpiece, known as "The Claw," stands 90 feet tall — higher than the White House itself — and covers a 120-by-120-foot area. The structure will support lighting, audio systems and giant video screens for the event.
Built by Belgian event production company Stageco, the rig was first assembled and tested in Pennsylvania before being transported to Washington, D.C.
The arena will accommodate around 5,000 spectators around the Octagon, while overflow viewing areas on the White House Ellipse and the National Mall are expected to host up to 85,000 additional fans watching on large video boards.
The scale of the setup has transformed much of the South Lawn, creating an event environment that resembles a major outdoor concert as much as a traditional UFC fight card.
