Ilia Topuria Аfter Loss to Gaethje: Our Story Is Far From Over

Ilia Topuria has released his first official statement following his defeat to Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. In his message, the Georgian-Spanish star showed respect for the new champion and refused to make excuses for the first loss of his professional career.

The former lightweight champion was forced to relinquish his belt after his corner stopped the fight at the end of the fourth round due to the severe damage he had accumulated throughout the bout. Following the contest, Topuria was taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

In a post on Instagram, he congratulated Gaethje on his performance and acknowledged that the American had delivered on his promise to leave a mark.

“Justin, congratulations. You said you would leave a mark on my face… and you did. You took the vision from my right eye in the very first round, and by the end of the second, even from my left.”

Topuria emphasized that he had no intention of using injuries or circumstances as an excuse for the defeat.

“No excuses. I had one of the best training camps of my life. I stepped in prepared, focused, and ready. Last night was your night. That’s the nature of this sport. Glory and pain go hand in hand.”

At the start of the fight, the champion looked close to another impressive win and even rocked Gaethje badly in the second round. However, the American managed to survive the toughest moments and gradually took control of the bout.

From the third round onward, the challenger began to dominate, landing heavy strikes and causing significant damage around Topuria’s eyes. The champion’s condition became so concerning that the ringside doctor repeatedly considered stopping the fight.

Despite the vision issues and visible injuries, Topuria refused to quit and continued fighting until the end of the fourth round. After the final bell, however, his corner decided to stop the contest to prevent further damage.

In the emotional closing of his statement, the former champion sent a clear warning to the new king of the lightweight division, making it clear that he is already thinking about a rematch.

“I will heal. I will rest. And I will come back stronger, wiser, and far more dangerous. And believe me… this story between us is far from over. We will have a rematch.”

Topuria’s words suggest that despite the painful defeat, he has not lost confidence. On the contrary, he appears more determined than ever to climb back to the top and reclaim the title from the man who ended his undefeated streak.
