Tom Aspinall Resumes Training, in Talks with UFC for Ciryl Gane Rematch

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has taken a major step toward his return to competition. The British star announced that he is back to full training and is currently in negotiations with the UFC for a rematch against interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane.

Aspinall shared the update himself on X.

“I’m back in full training for the fight with Ciryl Gane, and we’re currently in talks with the UFC,” the Brit wrote.

Aspinall last competed in October, when his heavyweight title clash with Gane ended in a no contest during the opening round after an accidental eye poke left him unable to continue. The injury proved to be far more serious than initially expected, with his recovery taking nearly eight months.

The champion’s lengthy absence drew criticism from fans, while UFC President Dana White also voiced his frustration over the prolonged delay.

During his time away from competition, Aspinall signed with promoter Eddie Hearn, who now represents his commercial interests outside the Octagon. It remains to be seen whether both parties can finalize an agreement with the UFC to officially book the rematch against Gane.

If negotiations are successful, one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights in the sport could be officially announced in the coming weeks.
