Sean Strickland Criticizes Bud Light Following Dustin Poirier Controversy

The Former UFC Champion Rejects Corporate Loyalty to Defend His Fellow Fighter's Mental Health Struggles

UFC star Sean Strickland has publicly criticized Bud Light for ending its sponsorship deal with Dustin Poirier. The famous beer brand decided to stop working with the retired fighter right after Poirier was arrested at the Atlanta airport for being drunk in public. Poirier later told his fans that he was very sorry and admitted that he is currently dealing with mental health struggles and alcohol problems.

While speaking on the Shawn Ryan Show podcast, Strickland explained that he did not like how Bud Light treated the situation. He said that instead of walking away from Poirier just to protect their corporate image, the big company should have offered him real help. "They should have reached out to Dustin and said, 'Hey Dustin man, you might have a problem with drinking. We're a beer company, we sponsor you, can we help you?'" Strickland said.

Strickland actually laughed at Poirier's arrest at first on social media. However, he completely changed his mind after talking to Poirier privately on the phone. Strickland stated that leaving a friend behind when they are going through a dark time is completely wrong. Even though the UFC has a massive, multi-million dollar business partnership with Bud Light, Strickland made it clear that he does not care if UFC bosses get mad at him for speaking his mind.
