What's Next for Quillan Salkilld After His Dominant UFC Vegas 120 Victory?

Quillan Salkilld didn't need long to back up his bold words.

After submitting Mateusz Gamrot in the first round of the UFC Fight Night 284 main event, the rising Australian declared himself "the real f*cking deal" – and few could argue after such a dominant display.

Gamrot entered the contest as one of the lightweight division's toughest and most respected competitors, making the matchup a major test for Salkilld. Instead, the 26-year-old passed it with flying colors, forcing the Polish contender to tap in the opening round at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The victory wasn't just impressive because of the finish. Salkilld dictated the fight from the opening exchanges, hurting Gamrot early with his striking before shutting down the veteran's grappling game. He consistently stayed one step ahead, defended submission attempts with confidence and eventually secured the fight-ending choke.

For a fighter competing in his first UFC main event, it was a performance that immediately elevated his status among the lightweight elite. If Salkilld can dominate an opponent of Gamrot's caliber in that fashion, there's every reason to believe he can challenge the division's biggest names in the near future.

Even more encouraging for his supporters is the fact that Salkilld still appears to be improving. At just 26 years old, his confidence and composure continue to grow with every appearance inside the Octagon.

The momentum behind him is undeniable. Salkilld has now earned four consecutive Performance of the Night bonuses, including three in 2026, adding another $300,000 to his earnings while strengthening his reputation as one of the UFC's fastest-rising stars.

The big question now is who comes next.

Salkilld has already expressed interest in facing Benoit Saint Denis, even suggesting the UFC's annual November event at Madison Square Garden as the ideal stage. It makes plenty of sense.

Saint Denis remains a dangerous and established lightweight, but he's also coming off a 52-second submission defeat to Paddy Pimblett in July. That makes him an attractive matchup for both fighters – a chance for Saint Denis to bounce back and another significant step up in competition for Salkilld.

With the lightweight top five currently featuring Ilia Topuria, Arman Tsarukyan, Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway and Paddy Pimblett, a title eliminator may still be a step too soon for Salkilld. A showdown with Saint Denis appears to be the logical next move as the Australian continues his rapid rise toward championship contention.
