UFC boss Dana White criticized Ian Machado Garry after his decision loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 in Philadelphia. Speaking to reporters after the event, White said the Irish fighter missed a huge chance because he lacked a "killer instinct" when the champion was hurt.

According to White, Makhachev entered the fifth and final round with clear physical damage, including bad bruising on his face and body. Instead of rushing out to attack, Garry started the final round by hugging and shaking hands with Makhachev. This friendly move deeply frustrated the UFC president.

White argued that Garry should have run across the cage and attacked with a flying knee or heavy punches the moment the bell rang. He believed Makhachev was tired and beatable at that exact moment. White stated that to win a world title, a fighter needs a mean streak and the desire to finish the opponent, not show respect.

The official judges' scorecards showed that Makhachev had already won three of the first four rounds on two cards. This meant Garry actually needed a knockout or a submission to win the fight anyway. White praised Garry as a very talented and classy person but insisted that his soft attitude in the cage cost him the UFC welterweight championship.
