Jorge Masvidal Slams Ian Garry’s "Beta" Behavior at UFC 330

MMA veteran Jorge Masvidal did not hold back while breaking down the UFC 330 main event alongside Din Thomas, Chris Weidman, and Dustin Poirier. During the post-fight analysis, Masvidal expressed deep frustration with Ian Garry’s constant displays of respect toward Islam Makhachev, labeling the behavior as "beta sh-t"

Masvidal explained that he never showed that kind of friendliness in his own fights. He noted that even during training gym sparring sessions, he always kept things as real and intense as possible. According to Masvidal, Garry relies on mid-fight hugging and touching gloves to cope with the high stakes. By acting friendly, Garry tries to relieve the pressure and convince himself that his dangerous opponent is just a regular human being.

To prove his point, Masvidal brought up UFC veteran Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. He noted that Cerrone used to hug his opponents to feel relaxed, treating the bout like a casual sparring session before trying to knock them out.

Ultimately, Masvidal was highly disappointed by the challenger's mindset. He asserted that Garry was not actually fighting to win the belt, but was simply trying to survive and hang in there with the dominant champion. Masvidal concluded that Garry fundamentally lacked the true belief that he could beat Makhachev, which ruined his chances of an upset.
