Carlos Prates: ''Islam Makhachev's Fighting Style Is Boring!''

The Brazilian star signed a new UFC contract and shared updates about his lifestyle and future opponents.

UFC welterweight contender Carlos Prates made a major announcement during his recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. Prates revealed that after a productive meeting with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell, he signed a lucrative new eight-fight contract. More importantly, Campbell explicitly promised him that he is next in line to challenge for the welterweight championship.

Aside from his title aspirations, the Brazilian knockout artist opened up about major lifestyle changes, explaining that he no longer parties like he used to, or at least far less than before. Looking ahead to a potential showdown with champion Islam Makhachev, Prates admitted he does not yet know what it feels like to stand across from him in the cage but he finds his style boring because he prefers watching knockouts instead of long grappling exchanges. In addition, Prates noted that if Ian Garry had fought with more aggression, he could have defeated Makhachev. Addressing Garry’s respectful demeanor, Prates stated that everyone has their own style but he himself is not a fan of that particular way of handling things.

Prates has been on an absolute tear, winning 14 of his last 15 professional fights. His only blemish during this incredible run was a short-notice defeat against Ian Garry. Since that setback, Prates has built an undeniable resume of elite victories, including dominant performances over former champions Leon Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena. With his lifestyle fully locked in, Prates is ready for gold.
