The incident involved Iraqi-Kurdish fighter Namo Fazil, who competed at Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS) and was preparing for his upcoming fight on 18-08-2026.
According to Fazil, an unexpected knock on his door led to a chaotic confrontation. He alleged that a group of 15 Chechen men entered his room while he was severely dehydrated and weak from cutting weight. Fazil claimed that Chimaev’s teammate, Baisangur Susurkaev, was among the group and that he was slapped twice during the incident. Following the disruption, Fazil lost his match via a brutal third-round knockout to Kaik Brito.
The story triggered immediate backlash, with fans sparking intense ethnic arguments online. To calm the situation, Chimaev issued an Instagram statement urging people not to let the media create division between whole nations.
"We all are brothers," Chimaev wrote. "Chechens and Kurds, we are Muslims and we should stay united.
Chimaev expressed disappointment over the event and stated his profound respect for the Kurdish people, mentioning the historic warrior Salahuddin Ayyubi. However, he concluded with a firm warning, stating that individuals must watch their speech because bad words always bring real-world consequences.
