UFC bantamweight contender Umar Nurmagomedov has shut down any possibility of a future relationship with champion Merab Dvalishvili. Speaking with MMA Fighting, Nurmagomedov made it clear that their intense professional rivalry will never transition into a personal friendship, stating they would never share a casual social setting or invite each other for tea.
The tension escalated over comments Dvalishvili made regarding Nurmagomedov’s manager, Rizvan Magomedov. Dvalishvili accused Magomedov of ghost-writing negative social media posts from Nurmagomedov's account. Nurmagomedov completely rejected the accusation, asserting that no one else controls his Twitter account and that his manager has never spoken negatively about the champion. He urged Dvalishvili to stop airing grievances publicly through the media, advising him that real personal disputes should be handled face-to-face rather than crying in front of a camera.
Nurmagomedov expressed absolute indifference toward Dvalishvili's life outside the octagon, acknowledging his skills as a strong fighter but noting that he is neither his teacher nor his uncle. He concluded by mocking the champion's established moniker, suggesting that Dvalishvili should change his nickname from "The Machine" to "Disrespect" due to his constant complaining in interviews.
