Things turned deeply personal and volatile at the UFC 331 pre-fight press conference. Heavyweight competitor Sean Sharaf launched a blistering verbal assault against Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, completely shocking the media and fans.
Addressing the crowd, Sharaf pointed directly at his opponent and stated, "Nobody likes a rapist. This guy raped a woman in 2019." Sharaf was referencing a 2019 arrest involving Steveson during his college wrestling days. No criminal charges were ever filed in that case due to a lack of sufficient evidence under state law at the time. Sharaf later taunted Steveson by calling him "Loophole," a nickname often used by online critics regarding the case dismissal.
Steveson remained composed but fired back, labeling Sharaf a "coward" who was simply looking for a way out of the fight. Steveson promised to let his skills do the talking when they finally square off inside the Octagon this Saturday night.
