UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has openly admitted that he is undecided about whether he will ever compete inside the Octagon again. Despite outside pressure from fans and media pushing for a highly anticipated title defense against top contender Arman Tsarukyan, the veteran fighter is prioritizing his long-term health. Gaethje explained that his decades-long career has taken a physical toll, leaving him at a crossroads regarding his future in mixed martial arts.
During a recent media appearance, Gaethje expressed frustration with the public demands for his quick return to action. "Everyone's like, you know, 'You fucking fight Arman.' I don't know what the fuck I have. I have injuries I need to take care of. I haven't made a decision," Gaethje stated honestly. He reminded everyone of the sheer longevity of his career, pointing out that he is 37 years old, started competing in 2008, and has accumulated 40 total bouts between his amateur and professional careers.
The champion explained that he finds himself in a complicated position because he is currently performing better than ever before. However, because he has already achieved financial security and captured UFC gold, he no longer feels an internal need to step back into the cage. "I don't need to fight again," Gaethje concluded, confirming that he has absolutely nothing left to prove to the combat sports world as he takes time to heal.
