Henry Cejudo: Gable Steveson Needs to Figure Out What Is Holding Him Back

Henry Cejudo: Gable Steveson Needs to Figure Out What Is Holding Him Back

Henry Cejudo believes Gable Steveson needs to find the reason preventing him from reaching his full potential since winning Olympic gold in 2020.

Following his triumph in Tokyo, Steveson moved to WWE before later making an attempt to play in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. His stints in both organizations were short-lived, however. In MMA, he showed greater potential, winning three fights before signing with the UFC.

Steveson began his run in the world’s biggest MMA organization with a victory over Eliusha Ellis at UFC 329, but suffered a brutal knockout at UFC 331, where Sean Sharaf stopped him in just 12 seconds.

“My question is, what is his perspective? After the Olympics, he tried WWE, but it didn’t work out. Then he tried the NFL and it didn’t work out again. There’s something left unfinished after the Olympics. He needs to figure out what that is,” Cejudo said on Full Send MMA.

“Gable is incredible physically, especially when he’s disciplined. There’s something he’s been missing since the Olympics, and he needs to find it. If he can be completely honest with himself and figure out exactly what it is, that will help him. It’s not about technique,” the two-time Olympic medalist added.

Cejudo has previously said that Steveson should take around a year away from competition and focus on developing his striking and defense.
