Sean Sharaf Admits He Is Considering Retirement Following Shocking Gable Steveson Win

Sean Sharaf shocked mixed martial arts fans by revealing that he is heavily contemplating walking away from the sport. Sharaf appeared as a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast just days after pulling off one of the biggest betting upsets in UFC history. At UFC 331, the 33-year-old fighter stepped into the cage with a 0-2 promotional record and completely turned his career around by knocking out heavily favored Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson in just 12 seconds.

Despite achieving the greatest milestone of his athletic career, Sharaf told Rogan that he is seriously considering stepping away from competition right now. "What more do you have to prove, you know? You just shocked the f***ing world," Sharaf stated during the raw and honest podcast discussion. He explained that he feels it will be almost impossible to ever top the emotional high of that single moment, adding, "Can I beat that? They say you leave the table when you're up".

The heavyweight also opened up about the deep financial struggles and massive debts that accumulated while he was self-funding his dreams. Sharaf revealed to Rogan that he is currently filing for bankruptcy despite earning roughly $160,000 in fight pay and double bonuses from the spectacular performance. He noted that his sudden fame has brought out untrustworthy corporate sponsors who never cared about him when he was sleeping in cars and fighter houses, making him question if he even wants to continue navigating the modern fight business.
