The Bulgarian national men's and women's taekwondo team, which is in a training camp in Manchester, took part in the British Open. Out of a total of six of our competitors who are in training, three took part in the competition. They not only took part, but also left with three gold medals.
In the 54 kg category, Hristiyan Georgiev, who is the leader in the rankings, started his participation strongly with a 2:0 victory over an opponent from Italy. In his second match, he prevailed over a representative from Saudi Arabia, and in the semifinals he defeated a competitor from Indonesia. In the final, Hristiyan demonstrated his class and prevailed over an opponent from Spain, deservingly winning the gold medal.
In the 74 kg category, Stefan Stamenov also performed excellently, achieving four consecutive victories. He prevailed over rivals from the USA, Denmark and Great Britain, and in the final match he again defeated a representative from Denmark and reached the gold medal.
In the final general ranking, Bulgaria took third place, after the champions from Great Britain and the USA, who are second.
Alexandra Georgieva, in the 49 kg category, showed very strong form. After convincing victories over rivals from Morocco, the USA and Poland, she also won a gold medal.
Competitors Omid Hosseini, Stanislav Mitkov and Erika Karabeleva did not take part in the tournament by decision of the coaching staff, preserving their form and health for the upcoming European Championship. The team was led by head coach Farzad Zolghadri, who guided and supported the competitors during the competition.
Our national team is training in Manchester before the European Taekwondo Championship in Germany.
