Gervonta Davis defends WBA title (VIDEO)

Gervonta Davis (21-0-0) recorded the first successful defense of his WBA 'Super' World Super Featherweight title.

Last night 'Tank' demolished the former world champ Hugo Ruiz (39-5-0) and won via KO in the first round.

24-year-old Davis wasted no time at all and went all out right from the get going.

The bout was stopped just two seconds before the closure of the opening round. Baltimore's finest landed mean right hook and the Mexican fell on his knees. Ruiz managed to get back up, but unfortunately for him, he couldn't continue and Jack Reiss stopped the fight.

Ruiz was a late substitute to Abner Marez who got injured last week. That was Hugo's second fight in a two weeks span, as he won the previous one against Alberto Guevara via UD.

That was the 20th KO win in Davis's young career and his 12th straight since 2014 when the American defeated German Meraz after the full 6 rounds.

In the post-fight interview, Davis told SHOWTIME reporter Jim Gray that his next will be in his hometown - Baltimore.
