Toney: Usyk is an average boxer

U.S. boxing legend James Toney believes that none of today’s fighters deserve to be called true legend of the sport — including Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, a three-time undisputed champion across the heavyweight and super-heavyweight divisions.

Toney argues that the modern generation lacks the courage to face truly elite opposition, something he considers essential for achieving greatness.

“Usyk is good, but he’s just average,” Toney said. “He’s not great. None of these fighters today are all-time legends — and none of them ever will be.”

“Sorry, this just isn’t my era,” Toney added bluntly. “They don’t fight real opponents. They don’t want to fight. The only way to become great is to step into the ring with great fighters.”
