Itauma challenges Fury

Heavyweight Boxing - Itauma vs Mezencev

Young heavyweight talent Moses Itauma (13–0, 11 KOs) supported veteran Tyson Fury, who recently said that boxing is too boring these days.

Itauma believes the heavyweight division could benefit from a bit more action. He was quoted by the Mirror: “I think I agree with that. It is a bit boring, actually. I can even speak for myself. People always ask me, ‘Man, when are you finally going to fight for the title?’ You have to understand that it’s not that simple. I’ve reached a certain level. I want to fight at a higher level. But my opponents don’t want to.”

Itauma explained that boxing is a complex mix of factors: “It also happens when fighters are inactive. Right now Fabio Wardley and Oleksandr Usyk hold all the belts. So what am I supposed to do? It looks like I’m highly ranked by almost every organization. It seems like I should be offered a title shot. But it’s obvious that Usyk, for example, has earned the right to do whatever he wants. And I don’t want to fight Fabio, since we train at the same gym.”

Moses was also asked to assess the likelihood of a fight with Fury: “He has also earned the right to do whatever he wants. But if the fans are interested… If he decides it’s a good move for his career, then why not? Although, realistically, I highly doubt that this fight will happen.”
