Former super middleweight champion and World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) winner Callum Smith discussed one of the most intriguing fights of the year. On May 9 in Manchester, England, former heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22–3, 21 KOs) will attempt to take the WBO belt from Fabio Wardley (20–0–1, 19 KOs).
From an interview with Seconds Out: “Right now I’m probably leaning a little more toward Wardley. But honestly, I could still change my mind about it. Wardley’s advantage is that he has stepped up his game. And I think he’s less worn down. Dubois has had a great career, but he has already suffered a few tough defeats.”
Smith explained the situation further: “I’ve been through that myself. When you’re an undefeated champion, you feel invincible, unbeatable. You’re convinced you can beat anyone. And that’s exactly what works in Wardley’s favor right now. This guy wins even when he’s losing. How does he do it? He believes in himself. He believes he can turn any fight around. That’s why I’m backing Wardley.”
