On March 28, the professional boxing event “Magnificent Seven” by Queensberry Promotions will take place at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England. The main event will feature a heavyweight clash between rising star Moses Itauma and experienced Jermaine Franklin.
Naturally, most of the attention will be focused on the British contender. Itauma competes under the flags of two countries, including Slovakia, where he was born. The 21-year-old talent has stormed onto the professional scene and is tearing through it with impressive performances. That is why expectations around him are now extremely high. And it seems Moses himself is fully prepared to live up to them.
Itauma has already been compared to Mike Tyson. He has every chance of becoming an incredible superstar.
- Here are five reasons why that could definitely happen.
The first is, of course, his incredible heavyweight measurements. The boxer stands 194 cm tall with a reach of 201 cm. Those are outstanding numbers that allow the Briton to work at his own pace. It is difficult to get close to him and find the optimal range. At the same time, Moses is somewhat similar to Usyk. He does not stay stationary and moves very well on his feet. All of this is because he is fairly compact. However, he is still about 10 kg heavier than, say, Oleksandr. That gives a huge boost to his knockout power.
Secondly, he carries that “dynamite” in his hands. Itauma currently has a professional record of 13-0, with 11 of those victories coming by knockout. That is a solid achievement. But it is important to understand that this is only the beginning.
The third reason for his seemingly inevitable success is his early start. Moses began his professional career in 2023. In just three years, he has already fought 13 times. Clearly, maintaining that same level of activity as the quality of opposition increases will be difficult. However, there is a feeling that Itauma will be able to keep up this pace for a long time. Therefore, by the time he turns 30, we may be looking at a very experienced and incredibly skilled boxer. Many fighters are only just beginning to reach their peak at that age. But Moses appears likely to reach the top much earlier — and probably stay there for as long as possible.
The fourth reason is his style. It is extremely aggressive. Many fans today criticize fighters for their lack of willingness to engage fully, impose themselves, and apply pressure. That certainly does not apply to Itauma. Moses tries to put pressure on his opponents from the very beginning. It is enough to note that only two of his fights have lasted longer than two rounds. Itauma could become the kind of boxer who gives fans exactly what they want: excitement and entertainment. In the current climate, that is extremely important. Yes, it is a dangerous path for a heavyweight boxer. You can always get caught by a lucky punch. However, fighters like that are incredibly popular. And if Itauma has a strong enough chin, those risks are unlikely to bother him.
Fifth, and most importantly, Itauma is a phenomenon who never stops improving. From fight to fight, it is clear how much Moses develops in every aspect of his game. He increases his speed and aggression, while becoming more polished defensively. All of this should help him deliver top-level, superstar performances very early in his career. Right now, he is chasing Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. And if he gets the chance to face them in the ring, Itauma will be ready. Having two scalps like that at such a young age would guarantee a fantastic career.
It is still too early to call Moses the next Tyson. But if he continues like this, he may even surpass the lasting legacy of Iron Mike. The key is not to place too much pressure on Itauma. Otherwise, he could simply fall apart. History knows many examples of great talents who buried themselves under expectations. Hopefully, Moses is on a different path.
