Boec.com is launching a new column dedicated to the biggest fights on the global stage. It will be called “The Expert Speaks” and one of the stars of Bulgarian combat sports, Nikolay Yorgov, will share his professional opinion.
Yorgov is a silver medalist from the 2019 WMF Muay Thai World Championship and the 2013 KWU Kyokushin Karate World Championship. He is also a multiple-time national champion, Japan champion in 2011, runner-up in Shinken Shobu in 2012, and a winner in the professional fighting promotion SENSHI.
The first fight Nikolay Yorgov is predicting is the heavyweight boxing clash between Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) and Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs). The “dinosaurs” will face each other in the ring on April 4 at The O2 Arena in London.
- In his last fight, the Bronze Bomber knocked out Tyrrell Herndon and will be chasing a second consecutive victory for the first time since—believe it or not—2019, after his first fight with Tyson Fury ended in a draw. Since then, the American suffered two losses to the Gypsy King, which seriously shook his ambitions of becoming the undisputed champion. In his last six fights, Wilder has recorded four losses and two wins.
- Chisora, meanwhile, will enter the ring full of confidence. In 2022, he defeated Kubrat Pulev, lost to Fury, and then recorded three straight victories over respected opponents: Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce, and Otto Wallin.
But what is Niki Yorgov’s expert opinion on this intriguing fight? “Chisora is a tough opponent, durable, and he will probably look for close range. He will want to tire Wilder out and wear him down. Chisora is resilient and won’t give up easily” said the Bulgarian star.
As for Wilder and his expectations, Yorgov added:
“Wilder has tremendous punching power and I think he will try to keep his distance and land a big shot for the knockout. That will be difficult early on because Chisora will be fresh. My prediction is a Wilder victory, perhaps by knockout in the later rounds, but it depends on his conditioning and whether Chisora manages to tire him out too much. If he gets too tired, his punching power will drop and then it becomes a completely different fight. Derek will look to attack the body to break him down” Yorgov added.
