WBA welterweight champion Rolando Romero has accused Conor Benn of pulling out of an agreed title fight in May, despite all terms having already been settled.
According to Romero, the bout was scheduled to take place on May 30 in New York, but the British fighter withdrew at the last moment without explanation.
“Conor Benn screwed me over. We had everything arranged—we were supposed to fight in New York for my title, and he just disappeared. He was there, he wanted the fight, but apparently he was only doing it for publicity,” Romero told Fight Hub TV.
The American also expressed doubts about a potential clash between Benn and WBC champion Ryan Garcia, suggesting the situation could repeat itself.
“Maybe he’s doing the same thing with Ryan—just making noise. I don’t take part in these fake rivalries. You act like a tough fighter, then disappear and don’t fight. Maybe he knows Ryan will knock him out,” Romero added.
