Inoue vs. Nakatani Breaks All Records: Highest-Grossing Fight in Japanese History

The undisputed super featherweight world title fight between Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani, held last weekend in Tokyo, has officially become the most commercially successful fight in the history of Japanese combat sports.

According to Yahoo Japan, the bout surpassed the previous ticket revenue record set in 2022 by kickboxing stars Tenshin Nasukawa and Takeru Segawa, whose event generated approximately $32 million.

The Inoue vs. Nakatani event sold out the Tokyo Dome, with all 55,000 seats filled. Ticket prices ranged from $70 to $2,100, resulting in record-breaking gate revenue.

Not only did the live gate set a new benchmark, but the fight also broke Japan’s PPV sales record. While official figures have not yet been released, early estimates suggest around 800,000 pay-per-view purchases.

Additionally, the event was broadcast live in 116 cinemas across Japan, contributing further to its major financial success.

According to initial estimates, total domestic revenue—including ticket sales, PPV, and cinema screenings—reached an impressive $64–65 million.

Inside the ring, Naoya Inoue reinforced his status as the biggest star in Japanese boxing after defeating Junto Nakatani by unanimous decision and retaining his world titles across the four major sanctioning bodies.

With the victory, Inoue not only defended his undisputed status but also headlined a historic event that elevated Japanese boxing to a new commercial level.
