Naoya Inoue’s father and longtime trainer, Shingo Inoue, believes his son should consider ending his professional boxing career while still at the top of the sport.
Naoya Inoue recently added another major achievement to his remarkable résumé after defeating Junto Nakatani in one of the most significant fights in Japanese boxing history. Following the bout, Shingo Inoue told Japanese media that he sees no reason for his son to continue taking unnecessary risks.
“How much more does he have left in boxing? In my opinion, he should stop now. He has the opportunity to retire at the peak of his career and remain in history as a living legend,” Inoue Sr. said.
Naoya Inoue is widely regarded as one of the most dominant fighters of his generation. The 33-year-old Japanese star has won world titles in four different weight classes and has become undisputed champion in two of them. He currently holds a perfect professional record of 33 wins in 33 fights, with 27 victories coming by knockout.
Despite his father’s comments, there is still no official information on whether Inoue plans to retire in the near future.
