Popular British heavyweight David Allen has revealed his ambition to face former world champion Tyson Fury in a potential tune-up fight before the planned mega clash between Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Allen is fully aware, however, that such a scenario largely depends on his performance in his upcoming fight against Croatian contender Filip Hrgovic.
“If I manage to beat Hrgovic, I will definitely call out Tyson Fury. Even if I lose but put on a good performance, I’d still want that fight,” Allen told British media.
The two British heavyweights share a long history. Allen has repeatedly been part of Fury’s camp, including serving as his sparring partner and training teammate.
The 34-year-old Allen enters the bout with a professional record of 25 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws, with 20 of his victories coming by knockout. His most recent outing was a unanimous decision loss to Arslanbek Makhmudov in October last year.
Meanwhile, Filip Hrgovic holds a record of 19 wins and 1 loss, with 14 victories coming inside the distance.
The Allen vs. Hrgovic fight is scheduled for May 16 in Doncaster, England, and could prove crucial for the Brit’s future plans.
