After months of speculation and rising tension in the light heavyweight division, a mega showdown between Dmitry Bivol and David Benavidez appears to be getting closer. Bivol’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, officially confirmed that negotiations between the two camps have already begun.
The fight is widely viewed as one of the biggest possible matchups in the light heavyweight division, with Bivol and Benavidez currently holding all the major belts in the weight class. Boxing fans have long demanded the clash, and now it finally seems within reach.
“We spoke with Luis DeCubas and PBC. This is a huge, huge fight. Obviously, Dmitry has to win on May 30 first. Dmitry wants the big fights. He doesn’t want to fight guys like Eifert, the mandatory challenger. He needs massive fights, and Bivol vs Benavidez is the fight that has to happen,” Hearn said.
If Bivol successfully gets through his next challenge, the boxing world could finally witness the long-awaited battle for absolute supremacy in the light heavyweight division.
