An exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been postponed to the fall, rather than taking place in the spring as originally planned. The delay comes as Tyson continues to recover from a broken hand sustained during training, according to the fight’s promoters.
Tyson was spotted wearing a cast on his right arm in March, though he initially described the injury as a minor sprain suffered in training.
The exhibition match—featuring 59-year-old Tyson and 49-year-old Mayweather—was first scheduled for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Promoters Richard Miele and Craig Miele had also mentioned May 30 as a potential date.
A new date and venue have not yet been confirmed, but the promoters stated in a press release that further details will be announced “shortly.”
Meanwhile, Mayweather is also expected to return to professional competition this fall, with a bout against Manny Pacquiao scheduled for September in Las Vegas.
Tyson’s injury first drew attention in March when he appeared publicly with a cast. Speaking on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” he downplayed the issue, saying: “Just training, hitting things. A small sprain—I have to go hard, that’s the only way I know.”
However, later that month, during a trip to Thailand, Tyson was seen in photos and videos without the cast, raising questions about the severity of the injury.
