Former Glory champion Rico Verhoeven commented on his loss to Ukrainian star Oleksandr Usyk in their title fight held in Egypt. The bout ended with Usyk winning by knockout in the 11th round, just one second before the final bell.
“They stopped the fight after the bell. I think we can file an appeal because this makes absolutely no sense.
When the referee stepped in, I wasn’t rocked or anything like that. I was just looking at him and thinking, ‘Why are you stopping it? We were almost at the end.’ For me, it was strange.
The referee has to understand that. Of course, mistakes happen, but he has to admit his mistake. Review the moment and either declare the fight a no contest or go to the judges’ scorecards. And if it had gone to points, I would have been ahead,” Verhoeven said in an interview with Boxing News.
It should be remembered that at the moment the fight was stopped, the judges’ scorecards had the bout scored as a draw.
