Bivol and Beterbiev set to complete trilogy in Russia?

Bivol and Beterbiev set to complete trilogy in Russia?

In 2024, the undisputed light heavyweight championship clash between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol delivered one of the biggest fights in boxing. Beterbiev emerged victorious in their first encounter, becoming the undisputed champion of the division. Four months later, the rivals met again in a highly anticipated rematch, and this time Bivol edged out his opponent to even the score.

Following the victory, Dmitry Bivol was forced to relinquish his WBC title in favor of David Benavidez. The decision was linked to contractual obligations with investor Turki Alalshikh, who organized the previous two fights and had secured a trilogy bout between Bivol and Beterbiev.

However, boxing insider Sean Zittel claims the decisive third fight may not take place in Saudi Arabia. Instead, it could be staged in Russia.

Speaking on his podcast, Zittel said:

“Most likely, they will hold the trilogy in Russia without the involvement of Turki Alalshikh or Saudi investment. Umar Kremlev and the Russian Boxing Federation, which oversees the IBA, are expected to organize the event. At this point, Bivol vs. Beterbiev 3 appears to be the next fight.”

Meanwhile, the International Boxing Association (IBA), led by Umar Kremlev, continues to expand its presence in professional boxing after facing significant challenges in the amateur ranks. The organization has enjoyed growing success in the professional sphere, particularly given its strong relationships with both the WBA and IBF. According to some observers, those ties could eventually strengthen IBA’s position within the sport’s global structure.

Zittel also explained that growing speculation surrounding a third fight between Bivol and Beterbiev has pushed David Benavidez to explore alternative championship opportunities.

“Dmitry and Artur were the two best options for Benavidez. But if they end up fighting each other again, then David will likely move toward a fight for the WBC cruiserweight title against champion Noel Gevor,” Zittel said.

If the reports prove accurate, Bivol vs. Beterbiev III could become one of the biggest boxing events of the year and finally settle one of the most compelling rivalries in modern professional boxing.
