The Matchroom promoter has dismissed rumors of a U.S. venue, insisting that the signed agreement requires the blockbuster heavyweight showdown to take place in Britain

Reports emerged this week suggesting that the long-awaited heavyweight clash between former world champions Tyson Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) could be staged in the United States.

According to the speculation, the 100,000-seat SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles is among the leading candidates to host the blockbuster event. Such a scenario might have seemed unlikely if the fight were being organized solely by the fighters’ longtime promoters, Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn.

However, the situation is different this time. At the direction of Turki Alalshikh, responsibility for delivering the event has reportedly been handed to UFC and Zuffa Boxing president Dana White, fueling speculation that alternative venues could be considered.

Despite the rumors, Hearn was quick to dismiss the possibility of the fight taking place in America. The Matchroom boss stressed that the contract has already been signed and clearly outlines where the bout must be held.

“There has been talk that the fight could take place in the United States, but the contract clearly states that this bout must be staged in the United Kingdom,” Hearn said, as quoted by BoxingScene.

For now, British boxing fans can remain optimistic that one of the most anticipated domestic heavyweight showdowns of the modern era will finally take place on home soil.
