Conor Benn has announced that his upcoming world title fight against Garcia will be his final appearance at the 147-pound welterweight limit. Speaking during media day, the 29-year-old British boxer revealed that he is permanently moving up to the middleweight and super-middleweight divisions immediately after the bout.
Benn has spent 15 weeks dieting down from his walking weight of 185 pounds, a size he maintained for his previous clash against Chris Eubank Jr. Describing the extreme weight cut as a "fight with Satan," Benn admitted he would not have endured such physical torture for any opponent other than a world championship opportunity in Las Vegas.
The fighter credited Dana White, Nick Khan, and Zuffa for securing the high-stakes match. While acknowledging that cutting so much mass is a major gamble, Benn emphasized that the risk makes the challenge exciting. Win or lose on Saturday, he plans to seek future opportunities at 160 and 168 pounds.
