Former UFC title challenger Darren Till has warned fans to completely ignore Yoel Romero's age ahead of their highly anticipated bare-knuckle boxing match. Speaking with MMA Fighting, Till dismissed the narrative that the Cuban powerhouse is past his prime due to his advanced years. Instead, Till labeled the upcoming matchup as potentially the most dangerous fight available in the entire sport of bare-knuckle boxing, praising Romero's unique physical attributes.
Till emphasized that Romero's power, durable defense, and physical strength have not faded over time. "Look past his age," Till stated during the interview. "I don’t think it matters how old Yoel Romero is. It could be the most dangerous fight in bare-knuckle. He’s big, strong, he doesn’t seem to get hit." The British fighter acknowledged that while Romero is getting older, he still possesses a highly respectable gas tank that makes him an elite threat across multiple rounds.
The Liverpool native explained that taking on such a high-risk fight is exactly what a true competitor is supposed to do. Reflecting on his past tongue-in-cheek comments about avoiding Romero during their time in the UFC, Till admitted that his respect for the Cuban's aura remains completely genuine. "If you’re a real fighter, you’re not genuinely scared of anyone unless they’re a heavyweight Francis Ngannou," Till explained, before concluding honestly about Romero: "He’s a scary dude. F*ck that."
