The international boxing community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Arturo “Lobito” Torres, a 26-year-old professional boxer from Mexico. Torres passed away at Mexicali General Hospital after spending six days in a medically induced coma following his lightweight match on September 19. The tragic news was officially confirmed by boxing promoters and his family, sparking deep sadness across the sports world.
The tragedy happened during an event organized at Vicente Guerrero Park in his hometown of Mexicali, where Torres faced rival Gilberto “Torito” García. During the seventh round of the tough match, the referee stepped in to stop the fight because of the heavy punishment Torres was taking. Just seconds after the match was called off, Torres collapsed inside the ring and began having convulsions.
Paramedics rushed the young fighter to the hospital, where doctors discovered a serious blood clot in his brain and performed emergency surgery. While his family initially hoped he would recover after a stable first operation, his health unfortunately got much worse. In a public statement, Supreme Boxing promoters shared their grief, saying, "Tonight we here along with all of the boxing community is in mourning following the death of Arturo Torres. Rest in Peace."
