WBC orders Saul Alvarez - Avril Yildirim for super middleweight belt

The World Boxing Council has ordered a surprising fight for the vacated super-middleweight championship.

The belt that was in possession of David Benevidez will now become the property of either Canelo Alvarez or Turkey's Avril Yildirim.

The 29-year-old Turkish fighter is coming off a loss against Anthony Dirrell in February 2019, the last time he set a foot inside the ring.

There were way more superior fighters that Canelo should and could fight - Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Chris Eubank Jr. who KO'd Yildirim back in 2017.

Details of the negotiations would be revealed in the coming days, according to the WBC. The fight would be the first of the year for Alvarez, whose campaign has been sidelined in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
