Sergey Kovalev's return targeted for January

Former WBO light heavyweight world champion Sergey Kovalev will be making his comeback this upcoming January, per reports.

The Russian is about to face #11 WBC light-heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera, according to Mike Coppinger.

The fight will be broadcasted on DAZN where Kovalev has two more fights of his current contract. The venue of the bout is yet to be determined.

Kovalev was last seen inside the ring in November 2019 when he got KO'd by Saul Alvarez.

Cuba's Barrera, 38, was also absent in 2020. His last fight is a loss against Jesse Hart in June 2019.
