Anthony Johnson gets new opponent for Bellator 258

Anthony Johnson will be making his Bellator debut this Friday night even though his initial adversary couldn’t make it.

Several days ago Bellator MMA announced that Yoel Romero won’t be participating in the quarterfinal of the Light-Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament.

There was a chance Johnson’s debut could get pushed back, but Scott Coker and his people have found a replacement for Romero on short notice.

Johnson will be fighting Brasil’s Jose Augusto. The South American fighter was last seen in action in April when he clinched his fifth straight win.

“They had an opponent in mind, but it just wasn’t worth my time and effort. Anthony Johnson said. Or they said I could fight Yoel in July, but I’m like, I’m not waiting till July and I done put in all this work to fight Yoel. So big props to Jose, man, for stepping up. I have so much respect for that man just for doing that. Because that’s not just dangerous for me, it’s dangerous for him. But it’s such a big opportunity for him.”
