Azerbaijan judokas dominate at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo

Azerbaijan judokas claimed six golden and two bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

The competition for blind ended in Sunday with a total of 13 sets of medal being awarded in the span of three days. Men competed in 7 categories, while women were divided into six weight classes.

Azerbaijan judokas had an all-around excellent performance. The women won a total of four golds, with the men adding another two gold medals and two bronzes. The Paralympic athletes from Uzbekistan came in second with two golds, two silvers and two bronzes. Iran was third in the final standings with two gold medals in the men’s competition.

That was the ninth Paralympic Games which included judo. The men’s tournament was introduced for a first time back in 1988 in Seoul, while the women made their debut back in 2004 in Athens. Judo was the only combat sport that was represented in Tokyo.
